Trustees

The charity is registered as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) with The Charity Commission for England and Wales, and submits annual accounts to the commission. The date of registration was 17th December 2015. The charity number is 1164898.

The charity’s board comprises:

Marcelle Siddall

chairperson

Rosie Batterham

secretary

Hazel Jinks

treasurer

Paul Osborne

trustee

All board members are unpaid, and any expense incurred on behalf of the charity is self-funded.

The Governing Document is reviewed at the annual AGM. The accounts are reviewed quarterly, with monthly summaries issued by the treasurer.

The board members all reside in the south east of the England and have close connections throughout the UK.

The trustees make regular, self-funded visits to Ingwavuma, during which they have the privilege of meeting and making friends with many of the women and children who are beneficiaries of the charity’s work.

There is joy and satisfaction in seeing the changes over time, although there is always so much more to do.

SUSTAINABILITY

As trustees of a social charity we recognise that the key aspects to be addressed in the context of the sustainability of Action for Ingwavuma are:

  • monitoring and mapping of the needs of the community we aim to help, and responsiveness to changes
  • continuous review of our Values, our Objectives and Mission, our Strategies and Action Plans - retrospective and future
  • organisational alignment as the charity develops, and succession planning
  • understanding donors, nurturing contributions, and extending our income streams
  • being aware of technology developments, growing our web presence and extending social media coverage

To be sustained means to continue to exist, now and in the future. Against a rapidly changing social, economic and political backdrop, both in the UK and in South Africa, the ability to adapt is vital in order to do this.

The future in Ingwavuma

Given the dire social situation in the area we operate it is highly unlikely that the work of Action for Ingwavuma will ever be complete. The trustees recognise that we can enable self-sufficiency in some areas, such as the provision of community gardens and water tanks, but the need for support to address challenges for the community and for individuals will remain in many forms in the foreseeable future.

The realisation that comes from knowing that, as trustees, we have a vision that will impact a small part of this world for the better will continue to serve as inspiration for the founders, the volunteers and our donors.
